What to expect from our 2024 season...

Artistic Director, Oliver Gooch, introduces our 2024 season and what to expect from this year’s productions

“Each year we choose repertoire that serves not only our audience, but also gives our repertory company of singers an opportunity to shine, and 2024 is no exception - the fiery romantic tale of Lucia di Lammermoor, with all its intrigue and Gothic horror, makes the perfect contrast to the Waltz King himself, Johann Strauss II.

This year we are delighted to be joined for the first time by Thomas Guthrie, an innovative and award-winning British director, who will present a new, in-the-round production of Lucia di Lammermoor. Audiences will be sat on three sides of the stage creating an immersive and intimate experience like no other. Our production has been developed so that every seat in the house has a unique vantage point and offers everything you want in a good night out – love, lust, betrayal, intrigue and a smattering of madness! I have long wanted to work with Thomas and Lucia di Lammermoor is the perfect opera for such a collaboration.

In contrast, our production of Die Fledermaus, will embrace indulgence and maybe just a touch of naughtiness… Coupled with a narration by director, Simon Butteriss, full of caustic wit, and a translation best described as having a Rumpole whimsy, this Fledermaus promises to be quite the evening of operetta!”
