A feast of exquisite music

Artistic Director, Oliver Gooch, and Early Music Specialist, Oliver-John Ruthven, introduce our ‘Baroque by Candlelight’ concert and what to expect from this exclusive fundraising event…

For nearly three decades, the quality and intimacy of our Baroque opera performances have captivated audiences, leading to a number of Times Critics Choice productions.

In a new partnership, If Opera and harpsichord virtuoso music director, Oliver-John Ruthven come together to present ‘Baroque by Candlelight’, an evening to beguile your senses with a feast of exquisite music, mostly operatic, from the 17th and 18th centuries. Featuring the early operas of Monteverdi and Purcell, and the larger scale works of Rameau and Handel, vivid characters and dramatic stories will be told by two outstanding young singers – soprano, Lucy Knight and mezzo-soprano, Melissa Gregory. Bach gets a look in too, even though he never wrote an opera!

This promises to be an unmissable evening, accompanied by early music specialists on period instruments, in the atmospheric candlelit barn of Belcombe Court. Do join us!
