A taste of France in Bath with the Mary Fedden exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery in July

Visit Southern France in a painting

Gaze at Mary Fedden’s exquisite oil painting ‘Near Albi’ currently on display in Victoria Art Gallery. Albi is a town in southern France, about 50 miles from Toulouse.Mary Fedden was born in Bristol, and achieved national success early in life. She experienced the world with her husband Julian Trevelyan, who shared her vocation as a fellow artist. They travelled to Africa, India, Russia, America and Europe, including France. Fedden is mainly known for still life paintings and murals, and thus this subject is a rare opportunity to view one of her landscapes. The bright and bold style so recognisably Fedden’s.

You’ll find this beautiful artwork in the Upper Gallery of the Victoria Art Gallery, found in the heart of Bath, providing a teaser ahead of the Mary Fedden exhibition ‘Simple Pleasures’ opening on July 9th.

Victoria Art Gallery, Bridge St, Bath BA2 4AT
Open 10.30am-5pm, last entry 4.30pm

We experienced Tales from Chez Bullier:
A gala cabaret style evening of opera in Bath’s Guildhall in May

We enjoyed stepping into 1920s France as the Guildhall’s Banqueting Room was transformed into a Parisian Speakeasy. We avesdropped on the lives, loves and tragedies of a cast of characters from some of the world’s most famous operas, sung by the If Opera Company.

“Wow what a night! Ben and I loved it, thank you - we can’t wait for the season to start!” Laura

If you enjoyed this taste of our summer season at Belcombe Court, book your tickets to see La rondine, Rita and Il segreto di Susanna or our concert version of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at Holy Trinity in Bradford on Avon here.
